When I connect, Linux does see the device, assigns it uba1 mount -t vfat /dev/uba /media/sd mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/uba, Try mounting /dev/uba1. What he said. Many (but not all) USB Mass Storage devices are partitioned. If you're not sure, fdisk -l /dev/foo will tell you.
